AA Resposibility Statement

The Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Responsibility Statement, a core principle of AA service, declares:

I am responsible. When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of AA always to be there. And for that: I am responsible.

and while we’re at it:

The AA Declaration of Unity:

This we owe to A.A.’s future: to place our common welfare first; to keep our fellowship united. For on A.A. unity depend our lives, and the lives of those to come.

These are big!  You hear them recited at meetings.  People take them to heart- and they should.  It’s why we do this.  We have meetings.  We go to meetings.  We welcome newcomers.  Anyone who walks in the door!  We listen to each other’s stories.  We tell our own.  When someone walks in the door, we offer an open hand.  It helps us remember why we’re there.  It helps us to stay sober because not only do we have to be there to talk about our problems, but we also have to be there to listen to theirs.  This is our common welfare.  We need to keep the doors open, remain focused, and be sure to be available to help where help is needed.
