Conquer Fear with Faith

Faith transforms the whirlwind of despair into a warm and reviving breeze of hope. The words of a motto that a generation ago were commonly found on the walls of the homes of devout persons need to be etched on our hearts:

Fear knocked at the door. Faith answered. There was no one there.

-Martin Luther King, Jr.

Having faith is an amazing thing. One of the best parts of faith is that it replaces fear. If we’re constantly living in fear, there’s no room for faith. Fear is a natural instinctive protector. Fear raises our cortisol and gets our adrenaline going. In a stressful or dangerous situation, we need to be able to react quickly and with great strength. However, having these chemicals racing through our hearts and minds is enough to drive anyone to drink.

Try on faith for size. Instead of living in a constant state of fear, live in faith. Live in the palm of God’s hand. He will protect you. He will look after you. He will only give you as much trouble as He knows you can handle. Of course, if you create your own trouble, that will be (literally) out of His hands.

With faith, you can relax and live a serene day. Your days will not be filled with constant worrying and looking over your shoulder. When there comes a knock at the door, let faith take over and allow yourself to have good thoughts. Answer the door with faith, and you may be surprised at the results!
